ALLAN
WICKS was born in 1923, in
Yorkshire. He was an Organ
Scholar at Christ Church,
Oxford, and subsequently was
appointed Assistant Organist at
York Minster (1947-54), and
Organist at Manchester Cathedral
(1954-61). In 1961 he took up
his present post an Organist at
Canterbury Cathedral. Allan
Wicks has made strenouous
efforts to encourage composers'
interest in the organ, and has
commissioned works from Malcom
Williamson (especially the fine
Symphony), Maxwell Davies, Iain
Hamilton and Alan Ridout.
