NICOLAS
KYNASTON was born in 1941,
the son of a painter and a
violinist, and the youngest of
seven children. He was a
chorister at Westminster
Cathedral when George Malcom was
Director of Music, and at 15 he
was awarded a scholarship to
study with Fernando Germani at
the Accademia Musicale Chigiana
in siena. He went again to Siena
the following year and was then
awarded further scholarships to
continue his studies with
Germani in Rome and later with
Ralph Downes at the Royal
College of Music in London.
Whilst a student in Rome he was
Organist to the church of S.
Rocco where there was a fine
organ by Cavaillé-Coll. Since
his appointment to Westminster
Cathedral in 1961 he has
performed both in England and
abroad, notably at the Athens
Festival in 1965, at the Royal
Festival Hall in 1966, at the
Third International Bach Week in
Bonn, and at the Royal Albert
Hall in 1967.
