ARTHUR
WILLS, who was born in
1926 at Coventry and educated
there at St. John’s School, has
held organists’ posts
since the age of 15. He gained
the Society of the Faith
Scholarship to the College of
St. Nicholas in 1948 and the
following year was appointed
Assistant Organist of Ely
Cathedral. In 1954 he became
Director of Music at King’s
School, Ely, a position he
retained until 1965; and a
Professorship at the Royal
Academy of Music came in 1964.
He graduated B. Mus. in 1953,
and has held a D. Mus.
degree from Durham University
since 1958. A Council
member of the Royal
College of Organists, Dr. Wills
has-had over fifty organ and
choral works published, has made
several recordings, and is a
frequent broadcaster. His chief
interests outside music are
travel and motoring, antique
hunting and Indian philosophy.
