HEATHCOTE
STATHAM, he was a
chorister (and later organist,
Fellow and Fellow Emeritus) at
St. Michael's College, Tanbury.
He went to Gresham's School,
Holt, and then to Gonville and
Calus College, Cambridge, where
he was musical scholar and
studied under Dr. Charles Wood.
Later he went to the Royal
College of Music for study in
organ and composition. After
being organist at Calcutta
Cathedral and Southhampton
Parish Church he was appointed
organist of Norwich Cathedral in
1928 to 1963 he was conductor of
the Norwich Philharmonic
Society; from 1936 to 1958 he
was chorus master and
co-conductor of the Norfolk and
Norwich Triennal Festival. He
has composed organ and church
music, and has also edited some
church music. In 1967 he was
made organist Emeritus of
Norwich Cathedral.
